3 Examples of Screencasts: Good, Better, and Best

1 min read

Here are my 3 examples of a good, better and best screencast. I recently have been into hack or life hacks videos so all three of these videos are hack videos. I liked all three of them the same but the "best" one they did a really good job showing and explaining what to do, and the video was a really nice quality. The "better" one was pretty good except it did not have great instructions and the "good" one was too quick for me to follow. I hope you enjoy the videos and learn some knew life hacks!

Best:

Better:

Shelly Terrell: Global Netweaver, Curator, PLN Builder

1 min read

In the article by Shelly Terrell, Global Netweaver, Curator, PLN Builder, she talked mostly about how important the internet world is in teaching. She goes into how she uses twitter chats and blogs to learn most things, which I completely agree with. Before taking EDU 106 I had no clue that their was a whole other world out there other than classrooms for learning. I had no idea that there was specific twitter chats for each thing that one wants to learn. After taking this class and following a twitter chat myself, I now understand how important technology is.

Final Portfolio

1 min read

I cannot believe that this class is over. This was by far the most complained about class by me and the class that I struggled in the most and I am so happy to say that I am actually proud of how this final portfolio turned out. Something I struggled the most with was trying to get the background picture to go through throughout the portfolio and extending the box to cover all the words in my "writings" page. Other than that, I had a pretty fun time creating this protfolio and was proud enough of it to show my friends and family. Something I thought was pretty awesome was that on my portfolio, when you hover your cursor over my title, "Ashley's Portfolio" the color changes from pink to purple. That is something that I would not have been able to do at the beginning of this course.

Hour Of Code

1 min read

As some of you may know, I work at an aftercare program/daycare in my hometown. At my job we do many things such as play games with the children, cook, or help them with their homework. I was helping one student in the library when I noticed another kid on the computer. I walked over to make sure he was not fooling around and he was online, doing what looked to be coding. I asked him what he was doing and told him all about our EDU 106 class and he said that he wished he could take a class like that. He knew all about remixing different pages and hacking websites and he is 11. I could not believe it, he was using multiple sites but the one that I could remember was https://hourofcode.com/us. I could not belive how awesome this is, I did not think that children would know how to code... I better step up my game!

Reading Adolescents' Reading Identities: Looking Back to see Ahead

1 min read

So per usual I could not get hypothes.is to work when annotation this reading, (and I am even using chrome!!!!) but I just went ahead and read it anyway, without annotating.

This article is about all the different types of identities that people give us. Donna E. Alverman goes into detail about how we were labeled from the start about what kind of reader we were. I find this to be very accurate because from the beginning, I was labeled as the slow reader and my sister was labeled as the avid reader, so automatically everyone thought and knew that she was the smarter one, which only made me fall behind more because I was down about myself. I feel as though giving labels to people is unfair and pointless.

Old Communication, New Literacies: SocialNetwork Sites as Social Learning Resources

1 min read

As I was reading Old Communication, New Literacies: SocialNetwork Sites as Social Learning Resources by Christine Greenhow and Beth Robelia I read the word "remixing" and immediately thought of our class. They are talking about remixing in the sence of video sharing, blog sharing, etc. but either way it is giving people a chance to share the things that they love, while giving credit where credit is due.

After taking this class, I feel as though it is very important for children, and everyone to be able to know how to communcate using the internet, rich or poor.

Gender Remix Commercial

1 min read

In the beginning of out EDU 106 class we were sent to a website where there were a bunch of lego commercials. They were separated up by "boy" commercials and "girl" commercials. We were asked to drag the "girl" commercial into either the audio or the visual box and drag the "boy" commercial into the opposite. The outcome of this is actually quite histerical but kind of offensive to me since I am a girl. All the "girl" commercials were about shopping and hanging out with their friends, while in the "boy" commercial there was a ton of action in it. As a kid, I remember there was no boy or girl legos and I would play with legos all the time. I think there is nothing wrong with girls and boys playing with toys that are made for the opposite gender.

My Six Word Memoir

1 min read

For this module, our task was to make a 6 word memoir by remixing a page on the thimble website. This was tricky at first because the original template had all the pictures floating and bouncing up and down and it was hard for me to figure out how to get them to stay in one place. Other than that, I really enjoyed this project because it was something personal, about us, like the about me page. This task was actually not as hard as I thought it was!

The New Literacies of Online Research and Comprehension: Assessing and Preparing Students for the 21st Century With Common Core State Standards

1 min read

As I was reading "The New Literacies of Online Research and Comprehension: Assessing and Preparing Students for the 21st Century With Common Core State Standards" it hit me that the struggle is not over with technology... it has only just begun. In the article it says that

"Being literate today does not necessarily ensure that one will be fully literate tomorrow since new technologies will always appear, regularly requiring additional new literacies."

New technology is always going to be around and even someone who knows a lot about technology, like Dr. Mcverry will still be learning new things everyday. In class he told us that he learns a lot just by teaching our class. Even if you think you have mastered technology as a whole, you still will never stop learning it.

Technology will forever be a never ending cycle...
